Happy New Year 2012! We didn’t do anything special to celebrate the New Year; Gretchen had to work in the Emergency Room Sunday 7a to 4p so all of us were in bed by 10pm. I wasn’t awakened if the neighbors did fireworks, but was lulled to sleep by the reverberating of the loud music of the folks to the west of the Cottage.
The USA Network had an all day marathon of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Mother and I watched an episode while we had our breakfast. Though the topic of the episodes can be sad, I do enjoy the quality of the stories and actors are super. Once again I have let my enthusiasm for online scrapbooking classes over take me…lol. I registered at Big Picture Classes for Stacy Julian’s ‘Twelve’ class and Ali Edwards’ ‘One Little Word’ class. Between these two classes and my regular participation at Masterful Scrapbook Design, Debbie Hodge I will have my hands full.
I spent a good portion of the day prepping the ‘inspiration file folders’ for Stacy’s class and am proud of myself for ‘making do’ with what I had on hand. I took old file folders for the cardstock and covered them with papers from October Afternoon’s Farm Fresh line. I had a box containing all my journaling prompts and such and thought this would be a good location to store these story telling prompts.
Mother and I were careful to remind each other not to run the washing machine today. It is an old wives tale that your family will experience many sicknesses if you do laundry on New Years’ Day. I know it sounds silly, but honestly why take a chance.
Today was so overcast and dreary that if the temperatures had not been in the 60’s, one would swear that snow was on the way. I put on a nice pot of old fashioned stone ground grits and cooked them slowly for 2 ½ hours, they were so creamy and we added cheddar cheese to them, real comfort food! Supper was rounded out with scrambled eggs, ham and hot biscuits. This was an ‘easy’ cooking day for me.
I never make New Years’ resolutions because I know they will go right out the door in a week or so; I just identify things that I need to improve upon or activities I would like to add to my routine. Meals are always a challenge; I hope I can add menu planning to my schedule. One of the things I would like to do is blog more regularly; I have been remiss in 2011. So for today, 1 down and 364 more to go.
